What Is the Random Pokémon Generator?
The random Pokémon generator picks cards from a database covering all 1,025 species from Generation I through Generation IX. Each result shows the National Pokédex number with its name and key details, plus a link to the Pokémon on the official site.
How to Use the Random Pokémon Generator
The default settings generate just one card from across all Pokédex sets. You can also
- Choose your set(s): Filter to one generation and type or evolution stage with the dropdowns.
- Generate multiple cards: Set up to 12 Pokémon at a time. Six gives you a full team.
- Filter special Pokémon: Clear any of the Legendary, Mythical, Ultra Beast, and Paradox Pokémon checkboxes to leave that group out of the draw.
- Keep your favorites: Click Keep this one on any card you like to lock it in the next random set.
Examples
- Generate a random Water-type team from the original games: Set Generation I, Water, and 6 cards.
- Get one unevolved Pokémon for a Generation III playthrough: Set Generation III, Any Type, Not evolved, and 1 card.
Why Use the Random Pokémon Generator?
Just for fun
- Team up with a friend, two phones, random cards. Whoever wins the 1v1 matchup (on paper) gets the point.
- Commit to setting the next random card as your profile picture for a week. No re-roll.
In the classroom
- Generate a set, then let students complete a drawing or writing prompt with the Pokémon they choose.
- Creativity exercise (random abilities), e.g., how does Insomnia beat Water Absorb for a stall team?
You can also set up a Wheel of Names to choose between your favourite Pokémon, or use the random number generator to roll a Pokédex number yourself.
